With support from Breckland Council, Xavier and Joanna Navarre IDTA, hosted an evening of tango music and dance at Lynford Hall in Norfolk. The remit was to provide a community dance event that would be accessible, local and inclusive. The social dancers ranged from complete beginners to those who had danced tango in excess of 10 years. The challenge was to tango to a range of live music from traditional Habanera, to Klezmer, through Irish Polka to Bulgarian Rucenitsa, with a little jazz and swing thrown in for good measure, thereby 'stepping' outside of the usual zone of expression. The professional musicians were part of the collective, Novinka Folskaband with the music arranged by their musical director Pete Allison. The event saw the premier of Pete's new tango composed for the project - the whole evening proved to be a really successful venture in vernacular music and dance.
