Alfredo's father has begged Violetta to give up Alfredo, since their liaison has shamed the family and made it impossible for his daughter to marry. She says that giving him up would kill her, but eventually gives in. Alfredo receives her farewell note & immediately assumes that she has gone back to the Baron & leaves for Paris & Flora's party in a jealous rage. Shown here, at the party - he wins impressively at cards ("Lucky at cards, unlucky in love") and when Violetta warns him of the Baron's anger, he forces her to say she loves the Baron. He then calls upon the crowd to witness that he is repaying all the money she spent on him & throws his winnings at her feet. Orange, 1993
