Persuasive Presentation: Why NOT Use White Backgrounds?

Using white backgrounds for your screens in one of the worst things presenters can do to themselves. That's because:

1) We see light, not dark. So using black text on a white screen is asking me (as the audience) to try to read something I can't really see, while trying to ignore the blinding, reflected light behind and around the text. Ouch!

2) As a presenter, you should always be the center of attention. However, a white screen on the stage clearly is the brightest element and the audience's eyes are naturally drawn to it.

3) A white screen directly behind a presenter puts that presenter in silhouette. You simply won't be able to see their facial expressions. To a great presenter, that's death!

4). The white beam of the projector throws light onto a white, reflective screen and right back into the eyes of the audience. Try watching the beam of car headlight for a half hour and see how you feel. It's much the same effect.

So ... the key - white text on a dark background. It is absolutely the only way to go!
