its probably ok once in a while but I would not worry about it dying from it. In the meantime look for an animal friendly soap, as around at a pet grooming station at petsmart or any other similar place.

is dawn soap a good soap to use? and most importantly is it safe soap for them

@myslash09 Id probably worry if it got into the eyes of the rat, may not like it, turn it off from taking baths, so best to stick with some tear-free shampoo or soap.

When summer comes along, I'm going to introduce my rats to water. How soon did you?

@JamaicaJohnsonify we introduced her 2 weeks after we got her, that was her first bath, unfortunately she doesn't like it. although she has a fixed water bowl in her cage and she dips her hands and feet by herself. there's a lot of info on how to introduce rats to water, and a shallow water bowl is one way. just have to make sure she can't flip it over.

Cute! I just recently got a couple rats and need to give them a bath with their next cage cleaning. Was wondering if it is ok to use Mane 'n Tail Shampoo/Conditioner? And what is the best way to try them off, just a basic towel?

@LandauTST we used a baby shampoo diluted into the bath of water, so I suppose you can use the mane n' tail in similar fashion, and we dried her off with towel.
