Facts are that all trains steam hauled had 'Bankers' (another engine pushing at the back in order to climb the steep inclines while in Devon's Torbay area). This engine, an engine I fired to while at Kings Cross Top Shed, did remarkably well considering the amount of weight it was pulling.

they may have adjusted the springs on the driving wheels to take more weight?

I remember No.9 has problems throughout 2005 with adhesion. I wonder how they fixed them.
