The 2001-vintage HP DE200C was a short-lived music-only digital media center (CD-writer, Internet radio). I upgraded the memory from 64M to 256M, installed a larger hard disk, replaced the original CD-writer with a DVD driver, the Celeron 533 with a Celeron 1066, and added an Hauppauge TV tuner. I then installed Gentoo Linux, MythTV. I also developed a driver for the front-panel Vacuum Fluorescent Display and modified the Linux keyboard driver to recognize the remote control and DE200C front-panel keys. The result is a silent, full-featured set-top box.
Wow, that's really neat!
