Since my last vid of the layout, I have managed to get the "sculpting" started on the mountain, opted to go for a plateau on the right instead of a mountain, built the plateau, added a semaphore at the entrance to the yard, and added a switch to allow me to switch between a DC transformer for improved running of the older trains and back to DCC for running the DCC equipped models without having to rewire the transformer every time I wish to do so.

Also in seen on the layout are a few structures. The ones on top of the plateau are old structures passed down from my father. They may only be on the layout until I start adding scenery to the plateau. I recently added a Lionel HO GS-4 Daylight to my collection. It still runs, but has a few issues on my layout, so it's not seen running. The 0-4-0 switcher seen laying on it's side (sorry, didn't realize that it had tipped over before I started filming) is from a Tyco Shifter set, also passed down from my father.

All 3 of my NS engines are now running and on DCC (GP38 #5287 was down due to motor issues for a while). I have them all MU'd running the main in this vid. The train running the mountain line is a OO scale (1/76 scale running on 16.5mm track, compared to HO, which is 1/87 scale running on 16.5mm track) Hornby High Speed Train set (R693) made in '88-'89. This was my first train set, received from my parents when I was in the 1st grade. It's been sitting in a box for over 18 years and has not been run in that time. I pulled it out and got it running just before the holidays this year. Though running well on level track, it still can't pull itself up a grade like it used to, likely due to the traction tires slipping.

I hope you enjoy this little video update of my layout.

  • You are very lucky to have a Hornby HST set. Those engines are the fastest diesel locomotives in the world.
