I think Tandy sounds too actressy here....not seductive at all.

Stanley sounds like he's from NYC

This is great, thanks for posting! Its a pity this was so censored though.

What year was this done for radio? Shame they had to censor some lines but still great to hear

Incredible find!

Both Elia Kazan & Karl Malden said they preferred Jessica's Blanche over Vivien Leigh's... I'm just not hearing a superior performance in this version. I no it's not a fair comparison, but Vivien Leigh remains the ultimate Blanche from what I can tell.

Commenting again to say: I've listened to this many, many times since you uploaded, as I knew copies of the broadcast were still out there and had wanted for years to hear it. The whole thing is terribly fascinating. What a great addition to the collection of classic radio on You Tube. Thank you. :)

How great to know-I am very glad it's something I could share with people who would appreciate it so!

i have never heard miss Tandy perform Blanche; hearing it for the first time i get the sense of her embedded, in the truth; reality of the character... as opposed to - miss Leigh's overwrought stage performance.

Interesting, I think she sounds so dry--although she's a great actress-and her use of the language doesn't seems as innate to me as Vivien Leigh's ( Brando called her perfect) . Blanche is supposed to be self-dramatizing and theatrical. Tandy seems to reach for it more than be it.
