  • How do I force on the WIFI card in it?

It appears to always be off.

OSX sees it, just cannot turn it on, the switch wont turn it on either.

    Thanks.

  • @JamerTheProgrammer Are u sure the WiFi card isn't faulty? Or needs a driver? And I know this might be a stupid question but: are u sure it's the right PCI card? Check the numbers on it. it should have this on it somewhere DW1390. I never had to install drivers, I just said that cos u have to try every possibility first...

  • I just ordered a DW 1390 card and will hope it works better than the DW 1490 card I had gotten. Thanks for your help...also what do you mean about the light? I was asking about if you had to use the sliding switch that is on the front right corner of the Aspire case. So did you need to slide it to get the WiFi working with OS X or it just worked without having to do anything to the switch? Thanks again...

  • Oh, OK, no what I meant was the light that shows whether the WiFi is on or off? The switch is connected to the WiFi component so yes it would manipulate the on and off of the card anyway. Good luck. And just remember try to use the Kalyway apple os and not the iATKoS_5i cos I had really big problems with this one. I could use my track-pad or keyboard. Also u have to install the os with CD and not USB memory stick, cos I found what-ever way I tried, it just wouldn't work.

  • There is a DW1390 and a DW1490 WiFi card that I have seen mentioned as working with the Acer. I got a DW1490 card and it did not work, plus it got way way hot - so hot it was uncomfortable resting my palm on the keyboard. There was no "Broadcom" chip visible on this card I got as everything was underneath a metal cover. Also did you have to slide the switch to the right on the Acer when it booted into OS X or was the WiFi working fine without using the switch? Thanks again.

    -Bob

  • OK I didn't know this about there being different WiFi cards. But when I looked for the right card I made sure it had the right spec cos you have to do this. The I got was the DW1390 and the person on eBay who sold it to me has more of them. Now I have copied his selling title so copy and paste this in:

Dell HP Genuine DW 1390 DW1390 HACKINTOSH AIRPORT Card*

Not sure about the light and can't check as the aa1 is in the same room as my sleeping son! I'll look later. But I do know it did work.

  • @peterrory Its not faulty as far as I know,I can use it on Windows and Linux.

OSX Does see it. It even has a wifi icon in the top bar. But its just when I go to turn it on it just wont turn on in OSX. My model (D250) has a switch at the front which allows it to turn on the wifi card (There is currently 2 in there. There is one inside the system and there is one easy accessed by the user by removing a panel) might be the switch. I havent a clue tbh. I think you can tape a pin which forces it on.

  • What load of bollocks, this vid is shite, can't see shit

  • ur a tiny dick

  • I've been wanting to do this for a long time with the same netbook but I wasn't sure it would run correctly. Have you upgraded the hardware?

  • I'm happy for you mate! I'm hopefully about to have the same experience; only have to swap the card out. Your video gave me strength.

Oh and you should definately consider a career in either horror or scifi movies. This clip remembered me of Cloverfield, not the shaking, but never having the wifi icon in focus. cheers!

  • sleep/hibernate mode will not work on an acer aspire one...yet! people are working on it.

  • Hope it works for you as well as it did for me. The slide switch does not work in Mac OS X to activate it, it is always on unless you disable in the System Preferences, and the light is on as long as it is enabled - just turn Airport on or off and the light behaves accordingly.

The only things that remain to get working for me are the two memory card readers and the microphone input has problems as it doesn't pick up sounds very well at all. Plus the sleep issue, but don't think that is doable.

  • Thanks, I've just ordered a new dw1390 :-D
