  • I remember operating the packer cycle on one of those trucks when I was a kid. It's odd to see the packer levers pointing upright. Must be for dock stops.Nice post,

  • I believe you are right on the upright levers, I van't find any other pictures of a 500 or 600 with these levers. May be a special order. Also, it has no riding steps

  • DAMN!!!! I didn't know that fidel castro ran a garbage truck back in the day

  • I started following one very similar this when I was 4 - 5 in 69, I'd hear it coming, follow it for the block, at 7-10 yrs (summer vacation) I'd follow on my bike for blocks & get to toss stuff in & operate once in a while.(+ find cool shit) & called a "garbage picker",I remember when the city dumped this service(1 truck) for a newer refuse co. with several (Giant) light green diesl trucks.end of an era, it seemed.

  • @mikeydel272 Wow thanks i never knew how those type packers worked till you told me this! This nice information very interesting going to rewatch this video thanks again!

  • @arkansastrash320 If you look at the rotating assembly on the side without the handles, there's a big cover that hides the gear and chain drives. the main gear at the top is hydraulicaly driven. I think the top blade chain drive is up top above the handles. :)

  • @mikeydel272 What chains are you talking about?Does the packer blade use chains to operate?

  • ohhhh my god! I can't believe my eyes! thats my grandfathers truck(but a mack)I grew up riding around in one of those! the guys used to break the chains all the time!LOL!

  • Would have to be my favorite rear loader.
