Hooliganism at rugby game caught on tape

The Mossel Bay Rugby Club said on Tuesday it wanted the South Western Districts Rugby Football Union to send out a strong message against fan hooliganism.

Police are investigating a brawl between rival supporters during a match between Mossel Bay and Heidelberg on Saturday that left several people injured.

Mossel Bay coach Pierre Bezuidenhoudt said they had video footage of visiting supporters running onto the pitch with knives, broken bottles and pipes.

We are not going to just leave it there. Its not a question of whether we have anything personal against Heidelberg but something must be done from union level downwards to ensure safety of players, safety of spectators and the fact that at the end of the day, hooliganism will not be tolerated.

The Heidelberg Rugby Club could not be reached for comment but Bezuidenhoudt said the footage was damning.

Various people can be identified on it throwing chairs. There were various instances of knives being identified in the hands of spectators. The whole violent episode is on tape, its unbelievable that something like this can happen at a rugby game.

Criminal charges should be brought against certain people on that video.

They can be easily identified.The SAPS officials on duty there should be charged with negligence.Facts and the video clip don't lie: it WAS the colored folk that started the shit so they should be blamed. Unfortunately some of them encourage their players and fans to commit these acts or extreme cowardice and hooliganism.The flank(7) should be charged and arrested and once convicted, sent to an institution where he belongs.

And to be fair quite a few of the Heidelberg players looked to hold back the fans but there wasn't much they could do. They probably would have been attacked as well.

@Elsiesklong Im from Heidelberg and i can tell our club did start that fight, Im ashamed of that fight they made our towns name arse, this is not about racism its about animalistic beahviour from the Heidelberg players and i feel that the sentence was fair
