First of all, thank you for your tutorial concerning the origin of the object. I tried to replace the origin of a camera, but however it doesn't work, because you can't set a camera into the edit-mode. Do you know how I could do that?! :-)

I don't have the 'Add Tool' button. Did they delete that in later versions?
Not sure I like 2.5. Sure, they've added some cool new stuff, but changed so much, I basically have to re-learn the entire program. It's inconsistent: shift+Middle mouse button translates 3D view, but that doesn't work in menus, has to be only middle mouse button (in 2.49, both worked fine). And if you open pre-2.5 blend files, the menu is still at the bottom and you cannot translate that vertically.

Finally found a usefull youtube profile about blender. Really, how many time warped bad blender movies are out there...
Im subscribing to this, great stuff !

hi Mr.Ira, i have some difficulties when try to set the object origin orientation (i need to rotate the origin into some degree angle), is there anyway to rotate the origin rather than rotating the object in the edit mode?
Thanks a lot, and love your tutorial ^_^

a big help! thanks!
-
in 2.49 is there a ways to have the origin be centered but have the object be somewhere else?
-
This was just what I wanted ! Thank you Ira! Frustration has been minimized.

@dahahaka If you rotate all verts like how he translated them all in edit mode that will work. Like, edit mode -> select all -> rotate.
I wish there was a way to put a widget on the origin itself though, because it's a fucking pain in the arse working out what values you need to compensate when you're rotating on more than one axis.

@GizmoStudio310 From the Editing buttons (F9), click the Center New button. You need to be in Object Mode.

I'm new to using Blender and recently subscribed to you since you are the most clear speaker I've found. As well as you seem to cover the basic things I'm having trouble with.
While I'm at it, is getting the interface to look like your simple click and drags? It's more to my preference and everything is current at the bottom for me.

@Cornbane I'm going to do a number of tutorials on getting the interface to look exactly the way you want. There are a lot of customizations you can do in the user preferences.

Nice one Ira! I struggled with this concept for days when starting out into Blender just over a year ago. What finally cemented it for me was trying to make a cupboard door hinge.

@alanpgoodwin I got tripped up early on in my Blender journey when the pink dot mysteriously moved and my objects started rotating and moving to unexpected places. Renaming object center to object origin makes a lot of sense, now that I understand it.
