In this video I explain how to set up an Apple TV with a standard definition TV with only composite (yellow) video input. There are two steps here, the first is to get the picture in color. When you hook up the yellow composite cable to the green component output on the Apple TV a picture is displayed but only in black and white. The second portion is credited to macrumors forum member takuzinis, this trick gets the output in the correct aspect ratio. No hacking is required to get this to work, and it does work on all take 2 software.

  • OK. with 3.0.1 Update it does not work. I never get amber light after Pressing Play. It worked with the 3.0 Update but is does not with the 3.0.1 Update. I have tried almost 20 times.

  • Its all about the timing, All I can say is keep trying. The first time I did the trick on 3.0.1 i got no amber light. second try worked fine. Good luck

  • This trick does work under 3.0, I have done it on both of my apple tv's 2 times each. I have a video that details the trick. This will be up sometime this week.

  • Why exactly do you need the DVI-VGA adapter on the end?

    Thanks for the vid

  • It makes the required connection for the trick to work
