Here is my absolute favourite. Such a sweet song about friendship. It translates very well to English and sounds very warm with Ms Hardy's charming accent.
I put some images of some of the albums and 45's I own. Note the English version of Message Personnel in the images. I have a total of 21 Albums and about 15 45's in my Francoise Hardy collection. I will not post any video where the song is readily or easily available on DVD or CD.

Lyrics
-----------------------------------
1965 (Paroles anglaises:- J More)
so many friends have come and gone like you have done
I meet them for a while between the rain and sun
like birds of passage sheltering from a stormy sky
we get to know each other while the clouds pass by

they always leave a little of themselves behind
a tenderness and sympathy so hard to find
they listen to my troubles with a look so wise
but often there's a touch of sadness in their eyes

like you, you came to me, from the storm
you came to me and I kept you warm

so many friends of mine before have done the same
they go away from me as quickly as they came
their hearts are full of tenderness and love to share
with all the lonely people they meet everywhere

who knows exactly what the future has in store
one thing I know for certain, I've got one friend more
a friend in need will always find a friend in you
maybe some day when I'm alone you'll see me through

some day, I'll come to you from the storm
I'll come to you and you'll keep me warm

  • Re the lyric, I think the last word of the second line should be "sun", not "snow". Francoise's (super-sexy) English diction is a little unclear, but in the original French the word "soleil" (sun) appears in the first verse, "neige" (snow) doesn't.

Wonderful song, anyway. I'm sure it was on a sixties vinyl version of 'Francoise Hardy - in English'.

  • Thanks, I just copied the lyrics off a website. If you listen, you can indeed hear the word SUN.

The song is on the vinyl you mentioned and on a couple of others.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG IN ENGLISH!!!

  • Yes, me too :) I think this one translates best into English. I am surprised it was never released on one of her compilation CD's

  • Do you have "Des bottes rouges de Russie" (1969) , a very rare item on CD ?...

  • I have just uploaded it. Hope you enjoy

    Oh, my God!!!!!

How come it took me over fourty years to hear that song .... in french!!! .... and know I find this English version? Oh, Lord, please involve this fellow who posted it here with all hapinness in the Universe. He deserves....

  • Man I love this one. Agreed with academical that her accent when singing in English is very charming. The simplicity of the music, compelling photos, loveliness of her voice, and back-to-basics subject of her song all make this a treat for the soul.

  • @Amanzi1 Can you download the b-side of this single please? i think it was called "However Much"

  • I think this is a true Hymn of the Friendship, it must be gift for the soul to share with friends no matter where they are. Thank-you very much for posting this pretty video-clip. From Argentina with Love...and Friendliness!

  • I just heard this song on ''Télématin'' this morning. What a wonderful discovery -- and what a beautiful song.

  • @124bjw Err... thanks? (I think). I've just listened to the French version myself, and the word "soleil" is clear, but I don't hear "neige". The first two lines are: Beaucoup de mes amis sont venus des nuages

Avec soleil et pluie comme simples bagages

  • @academical

You are absolutely correct. I just listened to this song in French and I generally need the words in front of me to understand, but I clearly heard "la neige".

  • very beautiful in English. I wish that the French lyrics existed on her French version so I could follow it more easily.

  • Thank you so much for for the lyrics!

  • Très belle version de "l'amitié" en langue anglaise. Merci pour le partage.

  • Bonne idée ,d'ailleurs moi j'essaie d'apprendre l'anglais pour Ms Emma Peel .

  • I am learning French just because of Ms. Hardy.
