Sun Media columnist Peter Worthington has written a column complaining that First nations veterans are not treated as well as White veterans. In the process he basically denies all of the destruction that has been brought upon First Nations peoples.

  • I had always thought the term "native" was to be avoided as it is seen as a throwback to the bad old days of imperialism, particularly my own countries (the UK).

  • @NorCalNik I dont know if its racist to use the term indian.

To me its not a racist term, but instead simply an ignorant one

We are used to using it for so long, it was in my history book not just as what the used to be called, but used as a convenient label and movies use it, so we are brought up on the word but it doesnt stop it from being a word from ignorance

By itself, I wouldnt assume much from its use, but its a combination of little things that add up

  • Indian is a racial term up there? Wow, in America, people still have a slip every now and then but the word Indian is still not considered racial here. But that's America for ya. Now, many now say Native American or refer to them in accordance to their tribe (if they kno). Peter Worthington tho does sound like an idiot. Canadians and Americans have both brutalized minorities throughout history. Andrew Jackson forced Florida natives to Oklahoma in the 1820s costing the lives of thousands.

  • "First nations, Native, Aboriginals, Indigenous, and original peoples" You left out victims.
