This has never been an issue of whither god is real or not. The truth simple is that religions are used to control people all the time, just look at what happened with Scientology and Mormonism. Both religions have had former follows with horror stories of abuse and trying to control their lives. Fallwell and Robsinson are no different they both follow more of a christian cultist type of theology. Don't be fooled by people who seem to be nice, don't let other people control your life.

1. i take inspiration from many people: jesus, lenin, atticus finch, rotk portrayal of liu bei. i never said that others have to or otherwise become animals, but its not like all athiests are caring humanists. (having said that not all thiests are either)

2. the US is such an odd country in terms of politics, you cant compare it to the rest of the world. most uk christians are pro-science (my chemistry teacher is christian) and have what would be considered liberal views in america.

But to answer your question, no, science and religion are not compatible. Look at the whole stem cell research debate. Without religion, the U.S. could be saving thousands if not millions of lives. God and science CAN'T go together because with science, there's no room for God.
