Rumi Jaffery's film 'full of friends'

From star cast to technicians, writer-turned-director Rumi Jaffery says he took 'all those who love' him in his first film, 'God, Tussi Great Ho', which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra.

'This is my first film and it comes straight from my heart, so I took all those in the industry who love me. From actors to technicians, the film is full of my friends,' Jaffery told IANS.

'The film is an out and out comedy with a universal message on humanity and nature,' added Jaffery, who has written dialogues for hits like 'Mujhse Shaadi Karoge', 'Chalte Chalte' and 'Jodi No. 1'.

Does the Big B play god in the film?

'No, no. People say that because there is 'god' in the title. Amitabh actually plays Salman's godfather,' said the debutant director.

'In the industry I am closest to Salman. He is like a brother to me. Amitabh used to keep telling me to make a film and that he'd act in it. Sanjay Dutt and Govinda, too, have been very encouraging that I make this move from scripting to directing,' he said.

Which of his own scripts find favour with him?

'My own favourite scripts are 'Chalte Chalte', 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen' and 'Rang', which was made 15 years ago with Divya Bharti in the lead,' he said.

And how goes the shift from writing screenplays to directing?

'Basically I am a writer. Writing is what I began with. But I find I am enjoying direction, too. Earlier I used to watch somebody else shoot what I have written. Now I shoot what I write and that is fun.'

Though Jaffery is busy tying up the last-minute loose ends of his debut film, he did take time out to watch 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.

'The film is just great. I watched it before its release and I am still drunk on it. 'Lage Raho...' has a fantastic message and I am happily playing PRO for it,' he said.

'God, Tussi Great Ho' is expected to hit the screens early next year.

To ensure the completion of friend Rumy Jaffery's film 'God Tussi Great Ho', the actor has granted bulk dates.

This may sound clichéd, but Salman Khan has floored yet another of his directors. Rumy Jaffery's directorial debut 'God Tussi Great Ho' was stalled due to Salman's arrest in the chinkara poaching case in April. However, Salman has now assured Jaffery that his film would be completed on time. He is concentrating on 'God Tussi Great Ho' and has allotted bulk dates between October and November to ensure its completion.

Jaffery says, "Salman has been extremely supportive. All his films were delayed then (around the time of his arrest), but he made sure that none of his producers suffered." He continues, "Last month he gave us 35 days. He has promised another 35 days next month. My film will not be delayed any further."

Incidentally, Jaffery is amongst Salman's close friends. He has written several films starring Khan, including 'Chal Mere Bhai', 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge', and 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya'. The director discloses that this film will be on the lines of the 'Munnabhai' series. "It has comedy, emotion and love - much like 'Lage Raho Munnabhai and Salman will be its mainstay," adds Jaffery, who has written screenplays and scripts for over 40 films.

  • whooooooooo really cares?

  • i think palagarisng a script almost ensures the succsess and easy money on a allready proved storyline.......so there are 2 type of people who make movies

    1. whose aim is just to make money with minimum risk.

    2. who likes to do something new and creative

This implies to the viewers as well.....people who are actually creative like urself wud like to watch a sensible movies.... otherwise some ppl like one of my mates who has made a yearly card wud watch evry movie which comes out....

  • oh hello guys...yeah its true bolly copy holly movies bt they also take permission first form the holly directors and they also earn profit! i dont c anythign wrong in remaking hollyw movies in bolly..its preety cool 'coz so that indian people would have different movies to watch..n both holly n bollywood people earn profits from it!! and m sure they would do it by compromising..not like figthing..like u people!!! n this is call business duh! in short, there is no independent nation! so its fine!

  • yea i bollywood shoould go on and get some new ideas for their movies and shows its rubish... stupidd

  • u r rute but he isn't wrong too

  • thats mad true

  • Your point of view is absolutely right, that Bollywood copies a lot of Hollywood Movies and indian youngsters should present new ideas. We have some unique movies like Rang de Basanti, Aankhen and many more. What I like is that many people in India don't ven know that these have been produced in hollywood so thats good that Indian people get to see those movies in their language and so thanks to them. And people who say kee p ur mouth shut, screw them as some bollywood movies really suck.

  • An Example of hollywood copying Chinese cinema:

    Chinese: Chungking Express (1994)

    U.S: My Blueberry Nights (2007)

however Bollywood has a huge problem with Plagiarism they are the biggest film industry that churns out the most rubbish movies of all cinemas but it is there actors who are the most talented but one must understand what movies are about it is about capturing its audience and it doesn't matter who has made it or what language it is in but how well the story is told

  • Firstly i'd say that the person who has created this video lacks proper film knowledge, His/Her ability to take its arguments against Bollywood are weak having studied movies for 3 years i can say with confidence that many movies produced by Hollywood are copies of classic French, Chinese, Italian and many other countries i could go on for ages but I'll just point out a few

    U.S Inside Man(2006)

    U.K Daylight Robbery (2008)

    Indian: Aankhen (2002)

  • though he is right ... but we hindustanis liek to steal ideas i think ....

and in fact abt 78% of the audience of GOD TUSSI GREAT HO didnt even knew abt ... BRUISE ALMIGHTY ... lol ....
