Long ago, Macha, the Irish goddess of sovereignty came to a man of Ulster. Not knowing what he had, he asked more of her than any woman could give. His disrespect, and that of the men of Ulster angered the goddess and the curse she laid on the province was long and harsh.

This Tale is a remscela, a pre-tale connected to the Cattle Raid of Cooley and explains why, when the warriors of Connaught attacked Ulster, only the boy Cuchulainn was able to defend that land. Cuchulainn is well known, but few remember Macha. This song is a small attempt to change that. Told fully, nothing added and nothing taken away, we enter mythic time. The cycle continues. Blessings on the teller, and the listeners.
