I think our first TV was one of these, although I remember the screen was on the right. Then we got a '52 12" Dumont with a greenish screen and bezel. A tube eater my father kept fixing for 6 years.

so what resolution was the black and white american tvs back in 1949?

525 lines with 30 frames, interlaced. Videobandwith was appr. 4 MHz.

It is a series set, no transformer.

The filaments of the tubes were connected in series and feed with the mains voltage. When using a transformer, the 6.3V output was applied to the filaments in parallel.
