Beautiful. Bless Sir Elton. And may I humbly suggest everybody read And The Band Played On, the book by Randy Shilts that inspired the movie. I could not put it down. It's a big fat book and I read it right through. Then I opened it up and read it again.

This song always makes me cry

Hey oddstud - maybe if viruses hadn't spread from simians to humans, and then from human to human (regardless of orientation) in some unreachable part of Africa, this MIGHT NOT HAVE HAPPENED. Your insensitivity is appalling.

So moved am I by the beauty we still have in this world. The many who have suffered, lost loved ones, the emotion and love, spoken by people who have been touched in some way by this disease is heartbreaking but reassuring for our future in the battle. It is also refreshing to read this response site without any profanity or aggression. The gay and frivolous attitude of the government is what gave this disease its strength to kill by denying its existence or threat to humanity.

@countryhoney28 I hate to say this but I have to agree with you. My "uncle" (not related) told me in the CA in the early 80s they were calling it the gay cancer. His brother is gay and he asked him what he thought about the illness and his brother actually said it was probably something transmitted sexually or by blood contact.

@Risa21 Good luck on your thesis. An interesting note about AIDS research: it was non animal research that actually led to the major breakthroughs in that field.

The english government is dramatically cutting HIV and AIDS services, I will never forgive them.
I came across this today. What is impressive about Elton John is that he has for almost two decades now funded the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF), which continues, even though the headlines are not there, to provide more help than any other non-governmental agency to people with AIDS.
I am a person living with AIDS. Thank you Elton.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was 14 years old. It was several years after it aired, but I'd seen the book in the library and I was curious. So I watched. And I cried. And I was angry. 2 people get swine flu and it's on every news channel before the week is out. 25,000 people die of AIDS and only then does the President deign to consider it an issue. Makes you wonder what would be different if the religious Right hadn't hijacked the Republican Party and the White House, doesn't it?
