Lol, if you only quote Matthew 16:18-19 and reject the rest of following passages you can believe that lie about Peter being the rock....BUT if you fully consider the rest of the chapter starting in verses 21-23, then you would have to assume that the Catholic church is Satan's church...besides, Jesus said follow Him in verse 24, not the Catholic church...Repent, believe and live according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and not Catholic expositions

@14dicken: Adding to or "subtracting" is forbidden, & this verse only applies to that actual book in which it appears. No one has altered the Book of Revelations, unless the Mormons are right. In Matt. 16 Jesus gives to Simon Bar Jonah the title of Rock & the "keys" to his kingdom, & the power to forgive sins. Jesus gives St. Peter the authority, as He gave it to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph (especially Joseph re: St. Peter) & Moses. Those who defied this authority went against God.

Yes I do belive the bible. That's why I know the pope isn't speaking from God, because His revelation to man is complete - Revelation 22:18. Adding to the revelation is sin.

"Christ gave the keys to St. Peter". But Peter died long ago. Show me from the bible where Peter passed them on.

@14dicken: No more arrogant then Moses or King David, or any of the other patriarchs. If you believe the Bible, then you accept that God does raise up representatives & spokesmen who are empowered to speak for Him. That is what Moses did before Pharaoh. If you are Christian, you accept that God has spoken to man in this way. If He did then, then He acts the same today. For there is no shadow of turning in God; He is the same yesterday, today & forever. Christ gave the keys to St. Peter.

@14dicken Ah, the nerve has been struck. Firstly, the Pope rarely has used his right of infallibility: only twice has it been used in the last 130 years. Secondly, if you have a problem with his titles, take it up with Jesus - for it was He who gave him such titles when He created the office upon St. Peter.

The Catholic Church has existed for 2000 years - far longer than the mere 500 years of Protestant Heresy. You mean to say that Christendom was in error for the first 1500 years?
