Talton, Bishop Suffragan * I bind unto myself today the strong Name of the Trinity * Is it your will that Dennis, Sarah, and Celeste, be ordained deacons? It is. Will you uphold them in this ministry? We will. * The Reverend Anthony Keller, Deacon: For Sarah, Celeste, and Dennis chosen deacons in your Church, we pray to you, O Lord: Lord, hear our prayer. * The Reverend Kathryn DeRose, Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke: Glory to you, Lord Christ. * A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. But Jesus said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.' The Gospel of the Lord: Praise to you, Lord Christ. * Preacher: The Venerable Frederick Erickson, Archdeacon * My brother and sisters, do you believe that you are truly called by God and God's Church to the life and work of a deacon? I believe I am so called. Do you now in the presence of the Church commit yourself to this trust and responsibility? I do. Will you be guided by the pastoral direction and leadership of your bishop? I will. Will you be faithful in prayer, and in the reading and study of the Holy Scriptures? I will. Will you look for Christ in all others, being ready to help and serve those in need? I will. Will you do your best to pattern your life in accordance with the teachings of Christ, so that you may be a wholesome example to all people? I will. Will you in all things seek not your glory but the glory of the Lord Christ? I will. * Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire, and lighten with celestial fire; Thou the anointing Spirit art, Who dost Thy sevenfold gifts impart. * Through Jesus Christ your Son, give your Holy Spirit to Sarah; fill her with grace and power, and make her a deacon in your Church. * Through Jesus Christ your Son, give your Holy Spirit to Dennis; fill him with grace and power, and make him a deacon in your Church. * Therefore, Father, through Jesus Christ your Son, give your Holy Spirit to Celeste; fill her with grace and power, and make her a deacon in your Church. * Receive this Bible as the sign of your authority to proclaim God's Word and to assist in the ministration of his holy Sacraments. * The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. * Thanks to Canon Dolores Conyer, Chair of the Committee on the Diaconate. * "Gracious Spirit, Dwell with Me" from Processionale, Paris, 1697 arr. by K. Lee Scott. * Ushers: Daughters of the King * Oblation Bearers: Kay Alexander, Nancy Kinney, Elizabeth Kitch, Ellen Skivington * Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the lord. * The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. * We pray that Celeste, Dennis, and Sarah may be to us effective examples in word and action, in love and patience, and in holiness of life. * Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit. Alleluia, alleluia. Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia. * Lectors: David J. Kitch, First Lesson; Greta Ronningen, Second Lesson. * Verger: Fernando Valdez. * Organist and Director of Music: William Carrington * Minister of Ceremonies: The Reverend Paul Price and the Reverend Lee Harris * Many thanks to videographers Barbara Beeman and Kathy Walker
