This is a short clip of me playing on a Black Label Telecaster by Bill Lawrence, built around 1985.
It´s some kind of a Swampkaster, but it´s not labeled. Not only that´s my favorite one, it´s a unique handmade telecaster, featunring a thin strat neck and vintage sound/feeling. Played clean through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

  • what is the model..it says in the headstock? any one knows something about the trigger ii from billy lawrence

  • It says "Black Label - Bill Lawrence". Never seen that label on another guitar so far...any comment appreciated.

  • NOOOOOOOO

you are supporting the wrong bill lawrence, his bastard of a partner creates that mess of a guitar and those low powered pickups

You really should go with Bill and Becky Lawrence, as they are the real deal, and have been fighting to preserve their name since that ass of a partner screwed (willi stich aka bill lawrence) over many years ago.

  • Hey Mousetrap, I DO know that this guitar is not the one from the 'original' Bill Lawrence. But, let me say that it is indeed one of the greatest guitars I have held in my hands. I changed the PU´s and it´s a very fine instrument, although I knew about the clinch between the two willi´s.

  • Good job! What can you tell me about your guitar...I am looking at them and want to know how they compare to Fenders. I have heard mixed reviews. They sound & look good to me. What about the quality & setup as purchased?

  • Yes, these guitars divide the world! Some say they beat the fenders, others say it´s crap. Mine has definitely a vintage feeling and sound, and the mechanics are the best I´ve seen so far. Very good handling and light weight.

The PUs sound fine, although the have not much output, as they are vintage-designed.

  • My Swampkaster is great!

  • Black Label pickups are still produced by Bill Lawrence USA factory and EOM mounted in swampkasters.

Willi Stich chajnged his name into Bill Lawrence early 2K when he was back to the US after he left to Germany and let his partner run the factory alone since 1984.

  • @smausetrap You want the pickups, you got to Bill & Becky. You want the guitar you go to Bill Lawrence.

  • I have owned both Bill Lawrence USA and Wilde Tele pickups. There is very little difference between them. Stop running down the Bill Lawrence ISA pickups which are made the same way when Willie was a partner. You mean to say he made bad products but somehow Wilde pickups are okay? Be honest, they are both very good after market products and deserved to be checked out by all. Let the consumer decide. Stop bad mouthing one over the other, that will only make Willie look bad.

  • Do you want one with a maple or rosewood neck?

And what would you like to pay approxiamately?

    Regards, Guitargainful

  • Hi, I can get you one maybe. Do you want a maple or rosewood neck ?

  • You likely own a true Willi Stich tele. Des-igned after his own he later gave to tele master Roy Buchanan. they were built in the early 80's MIJ for japan market only due to court litigation with his former partner(the outcome being Willi could not legally market in USA under Bill Lawrence) ERGO MIJ for Japan market.

I have one rare birds & great players. spoketo Becky Willi's wife about the provenance of the guitar recently and was able to confirm the history. To me Willi is the only BL
