pretty sure what makes a chk chk chk sound is three consecutive exclamation points in native African language, hence the chk chk chk being in brackets, and the !!! before the brackets.

actually the chk chk chk comes from the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy where when one character makes the Chk Chk Chk sounds, the subtiles just said !!! the band's name is actually !!!, they just add the (chk chk chk) so people know how to pronounce it.
