Thanks. I've switched to pre-coloured red and black fondant as Mayen suggested. (I guess you can't really do that with buttercream!) If you wanted to get some of that fondant, have a look at the website I sent you.

Cats are my favourite, so I really love this. That's amazing for a first go! I've had the same problem with black and red buttercream - just seems to end up grey and pink for me.

super cute!! u can go w/premade black fondant - but it also helps if u start w/CHOCOALTE fondant - chocolate fondant provides the perfect base 4deep black & deep red fondant. u'll never get true black or true deep red w/regular fondant, b/c as u discovered, all that food coloring throws off the proportions of the ingredients and leaves u w/a sticky mess! As 4a drying surface, I use parchment or wax paper. Great job, love to see more!

Thanks. I actually use an Australian brand - Bakels RTR icing.

you can buy black fondant by satin ice at your local bakery supply store or on line
