1977 Daytona 500

Cale Yarborough defeats Benny Parsons by 1.39 seconds to take his second Daytona 500 victory. Yarborough is one of only 3 drivers to win the Daytona 500 back-to-back (Petty in 73 & 74; Yarborough in 83 & 84; Marlin in 94 & 95) and also has the record for the longest gap between victories for repeat winners (9 year gap between his wins in 68 & 77). The race is also noteworthy that for the first time a woman, Janet Guthrie, competed in the Great American race.
