The Trans Pennine Trail has been closed at Staveley for over two years during the Northern Loop road works. This video was taken the first weekend it re-opened in November 2009.

  • I don't think I got too close to falling in, although I did chicken out on using the SPDs. I've only toppled once with my feet stuck to the pedals, but I certainly didn't want my second fall to be there! The bark chip is really hard work - you sink quite a long way, even on fat tyres. There is, however, a new access point from the end of Huntsman Road so it's possible to avoid the busy Lowgates roundabout. Yes, got the alignment on the GPS but haven't transferred it yet!

  • I thought you were going in at one stage.

Don't think I'm going to go down yet. It's not at all safe or rideable on that mud/bark stage is it?

Did you take the GPS with you to record the new alignment? :^)

    Cheers

    Simon R

  • I also prefer to avoid the mud - the temporary bark chips are supposed to alleviate that problem but don't seem to be working.

  • From what I could see of that video, it looks muddy when you ride on the trial, and then when you get to the tarmac - it gets better, I prefer to ride on it when it is completely bone dry.
