The Trans Pennine Trail has been closed at Staveley for over two years during the Northern Loop road works. This video was taken the first weekend it re-opened in November 2009.
I don't think I got too close to falling in, although I did chicken out on using the SPDs. I've only toppled once with my feet stuck to the pedals, but I certainly didn't want my second fall to be there! The bark chip is really hard work - you sink quite a long way, even on fat tyres. There is, however, a new access point from the end of Huntsman Road so it's possible to avoid the busy Lowgates roundabout. Yes, got the alignment on the GPS but haven't transferred it yet!
From what I could see of that video, it looks muddy when you ride on the trial, and then when you get to the tarmac - it gets better, I prefer to ride on it when it is completely bone dry.

I thought you were going in at one stage.
Don't think I'm going to go down yet. It's not at all safe or rideable on that mud/bark stage is it?
Did you take the GPS with you to record the new alignment? :^)
Cheers

I also prefer to avoid the mud - the temporary bark chips are supposed to alleviate that problem but don't seem to be working.
