The war in Afghanistan will stretch beyond thirteen years - according to Washington's top military commander there.
What began a decade ago as a mission to get the perpetrators of 9/11, has now transformed into an open-ended hunt for the elusive Taliban. Some former U.S. military officers are disillusioned with the Afghan war. Lieutenant Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski thinks the true aim of the invasion was to create a platform for keeping an eye on - or even invading - other targets.

"Where we supposedly caught and killed Osama..." "We never intend of giving it back to the Afghan people" Wow.... Unbelievable. So what? What's your mission? Kill Afghan people, send American people to get killed, not mentioning the rest of the people sent there... It's so freaking sad... Obviously the US DO NOT want to "work together" with anybody... And if they do, they'll finish putting 'em down anyway.

Russia lost the cold war to the US. US also has a bigger, stronger, more capable military than Russia. So, you're clearly wrong. It's important to work together in the future because a war with either country would devastate both. Today, the US has conquered Iraq and Afghanistan, it's looking to conquer Iran now.

The US gov didn't create a democracy in Afghanistan we created an oligarchy where drug and/or warlords rule the nation.

Nothing is permanent and it appears, at least for now, Iraq is throwing out US personnel and closing down foreign military bases. Furthermore, considering 54% of the country thinks of foreign forces as occupiers, regional players like incl. Russia and China oppose permanent bases incl most Afghans and a major withdrawal leaves any bases easy targets, etc... it's not possible.
