Obama Bows to Japanese Emperor Akihito

You see other people shaking hands with your president, right? In Japan bowing shows respect, everybody does it and all the time. However, handshakes are uncommon. What would you say, if leaders refused to shake hands with Obama? It's formal etiquette. He was just being respectful, it doesn't mean anything besides that - and it definitely does not show weakness like some news station tried to imply. It's nice to see an American President actually know a bit about the culture he is visiting!

@moestavern1983 Are you kidding me, O-bow-ma doesn't know anything about international etiquette. All he knows about is Chicago corrupt politics.
-
I surprised O-bow-ma didn't give the Emperor of Japan a squeeze on the dome he was done there so long.

Pope John Paul II used to kiss the ground every time he got off a plane in some country. I didn't like that really, but the opposite extreme from humility causes more problems than overly humble. Obama bowing to other country leaders isn't shameful or disgraceful. Most other nationals would look at it in favor of the United States.

The only thing to analyze here is the size of that midget.
P. Obama is a young person. It is okay to show respect by bowing since the Emperor and the Empress shook hands. Plus, the Empress is wearing a Kimono (not a simple dress and hat) to welcome the President. To me it is a sign of high respect and ... friendship by Their Imperial Majesties to someone not their same! One must "deserve" such from Their I. M., and President Obama did. That goes beyond protocol. I would not imagine The President bowing to anybody else, though.

I think this is over-analyzing the whole situation.

What is there to over analyze? The Messiah bowed to Akihito... End of story. I dont think the President should bow to anybody... They are all leaders of their country's and nothing more. You dont see any other nations bowing...
