Inspired by New Guinea

Een avond over de cultuur van een van de landen die deze herfst vertegenwoordigd is op de Tribal Art Fair en in de tentoonstelling 'Bisj Palen' in het Tropenmuseum. Nieuw-Guinea is één van de eilanden van de Melanische eilandengroep in de Stille Oceaan. Tot 1962 was het een Nederlandse kolonie. De avond wordt ingeleid door Sjoerd de Vries, specialist in de kunst en ethnografie van de Himalaya regio, en eigenaar van de Astamangala winkel in Amsterdam.
Het programma bestaat uit een lezing over de 'Bish Palen', kunst van het duo Heringa/Van Kalsbeek en de documentaire 'Sing-Sing Tumbuan: A living document of Sepik-Ramu culture', van Marsha Berman en Paula van den Berg.

An evening around the culture of one of the countries which is represented this autumn both at the Tribal Art Fair and in the exhibition 'Bisj Poles' in the Royal Tropical Institute. New Guinea is one of the island of the Melanesia Island group in the South Pacific. Until 1962 it was a Dutch colony. The evening will be introduced by Sjoerd de Vries, expert of the art and ethnography of the Himalayan region, and owner of the Astamangala shop. The programme consists of a reading on the 'Bish Poles' exhibition, art from the duo Heringa/Van Kalsbeek and the documentary 'Sing-sing Tumbuan: A living document of Sepik-Ramu culture', by Marsha Berman and Paula van den Berg.
