  • @AutumnGracy ...Err, where exactly did you read this? I've been into Tolkien for nearly 30 years, and what you've just said goes against everything i've read and learned about him!

  • Why Pink ? you ruins LOTR song with that :(

  • Google isn't where you got you images learn to cite properly. Google is an search engine, it looks at other sites. Tolkien would be ashamed.

  • @phorat Hey, I'm just telling it as I know it. Maybe that's somebody else's opinion of why he wrote it, but as far as I know it was the pages thing...

  • @AutumnGracy Hogwash. To quote the Tolkien Gateway, "The transformation of the Shire from rural idyll to industrial wasteland heavily parallels Tolkien's own views of the destruction of the English countryside by the steady creep of industrialisation... [much of the] the symbolism lay in the feeling of loss he felt after returning from the First World War, to discover that many of his close friends had died, and the world he remembered from his youth had largely disappeared."

  • @jaskamakkara He was paid to write a certain number of pages. He wanted the book to end at the part where Aragorn is crowned and then everybody bows to the hobbits, except his publisher made him finish the pagecount as intended, so he had to come up with an extended ending that, let's face it, even HE had to think was a little bit depressing. They put it in the movies because it was in the books, but it wasn't how tolkein envisioned it ending. He just wanted the 'everybodies happy' end.

  • @AutumnGracy'' Except edit out the last part at the end where everybody goes home and Frodo gets depressed, etc etc etc since that wasn't supposed to be the intended ending anyways.'' What do you mean, i just finished the return of the king and that was pretty much how it ended?

  • how can you dislike :X?this is the best♥
