If I may humbly chime in, I'd say it's a nice toy for the buck. They introduced the newer model this year with a wider screen though. I believe it's called "Pentaview".

im just curious, but does the4x optics appear as 4x in the screen or does it increase to 40 as it reaches the screen?

Yes, I like this microscope. It has three different magnifications which you can see in the video (it starts on the highest one, and later I switch it to the other ones and then back to highest). The best part is the LCD screen: anyone can look along with me at the same time. It does not come with blank slides or cover slips, so those need to be acquired separately.
