Ants are seen here as they patrol and "farm" a plant-sucking aphid colony that is using a Burr Dock plant for food. The ants will attack and sting any intruders who intend to hurt the plant or the aphids. In return, the aphids secrete and offer the ants a sweet nectar that they create from the plant juices. Therefore, the ants are fed by the aphids and the aphids, in return, are protected by the ants. This relationship in nature is known as symbiosis. Video: Brian La Fountain
