The second game included in the Sega Arcade Hits Pack. Apparently LA Machinguns is the sequel to Gunblade NY, one of my favourite on-rails shooters of the 90s.
I had never played LA Machineguns before I owned this collection, so I cannot say how it compares to the arcade version. What I will say is that this sequel doesn't quite capture the same instant accessibility of the original. It is a little lacking for some reason. Maybe it is the lack of voice overs on the characters, maybe it is because the frame-rate is more erratic, perhaps it is because the game isn't really that much different from the original Gunblade besides featuring some graphical polish.
LA Machine Guns has visually aged decently for a Sega Model 3 game of the late 90s but its gameplay hasn't and I honestly haven't played it quite as much as Gunblade either. Whatever though, I'm sure those of you who just like their on-rails shooters will have no problem with this eitherway.
Both Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns were originally co-developed in the arcades by Sega's AM3 and AM4 divisions (previously known as Hitmaker and Amusement Vision, respectively); Sega AM3 themselves developed the Arcade Hits Pack. In the Las Vegas stage, Sonic the Hedgehog's cameo remains intact like the arcade but adverts for Magical Truck Adventure (an obscure Model 3 arcade game also by Sega AM3) were replaced by those from Gunblade NY.
