  • originally the word geisha (芸者) means skilful person who is proficient in special

field such as martial art or dancing.

the word geiko(芸妓) means female entertainer who is master of traditinal art such as

    dancing,music,japanese banjyo(三味線)and so on.

by the way, maiko ichiemi (市笑)on this tube is now geiko in ponto chou(先斗町).

  • "Geiko" are called in Kyoto all women how passed their apprentice years.Appreantice geiko are called maiko.

In other districts from Japan, like Tokyo, they are called geisha.

  • @ARMA270392

I know no difference. Geiko is the Gion-Kyoto name for Geisha. But it's both the same.

  • Anata wa koi kai desu. Arigato geiko Ichisayo.

  • Geiko come from Kyoto, the women here prefer to call themselves that. The ones in Tokyo on the other hand call themselves Geisha :D

  • And the Maiko is Ichiemi ^^

  • What's the difference between geiko and geisha????I'm italian but i love japanese traditions...

  • It is geiko Ichisayo.

  • Beautiful dance. Do you know the name of the geiko?
