In 1981, Tyne Tees Television's evening news show Northern Life had some muscle men and women in the studio. The presenter makes it pretty clear what he thinks.

  • Wow, methinks he protesteth too much, these women still look perfectly feminine. Quite unlike the freakish specimens you see in the "muscle" magazines nowadays.

  • The same old boring line of questioning. Why does the cameraman pull back to the horizon when she does a bicep flex.

  • I love it when bigots interview people. It's so telling and awkward.

  • The women in this video shows that women can compete in the physique division in bodybuilding just as much as men .Break down the social taboos about male and female physical strength. Both women look amazing espicially Denise Wilkinson. They were ahead of their time.

  • I notice he didn't answer when she asked if she looked unfeminine. Got to admit the female body builders now are a lot more muscular, check out Louis Theroux's programme to see what I mean.

  • You can tell the blonde is class by the way she talks. You wouldn't think someone like her would pursue something like this, especially when it was in its infancy. Class and muscle, very nice.

  • Good question LOL but we both know the answer.
