Award-winning novelist Jonathan Safran Foer challenges us to face some uncomfortable facts about our eating habits, and probes some of our fundamental instincts about right and wrong.

  • @elbowitdo27: I am a vegetarian because I personally find most meat repulsive. I've grown up on a farm with cows and felt uneasy about consuming meat as long as I can remember. It is a personal choice, I don't try to push it on others or claim to be better than others for doing it. I just know that for me, it does not feel right.

I do however support the weekday vegetarian movement; meat consumption is not as sustainable as vegetarianism and recognizing that would do our planet a lot of good.

  • @ealvarezz10, I don't see why you should create a problem for yourself when you can call yourself a flexitarian. Sometimes it is all about choosing the appropriate definition.

  • @aaron111130a Well it's a good thing vegans eat much more than simply soy then, isn't it?

  • @kaupaxup

although i COMPLETELY agree with what you're saying, i'd just like to point out that from a biodiversity and conservation standing point, eeviechu is correct in saying that countless crops of soy-beans would be more destructive. not only would it destroy the biodiversity of countries, but it would crumble food chains and cause extinction of species.

  • @88momart You make it sound like there's only two choices, which are polar extremes. People eat 21 meals per week. There's a sliding scale between consuming zero vegetarian meals per week and consuming 21. I'd rather someone commit themselves strongly to three vegetarian meals per week for the rest of their life than to not try at all. The good that would come from that simple act would be massive.

  • @ealvarezz10 It would be far better if half the population were semi vegetarian than if one percent were strictly vegan.

  • @twinqletwinqle It bothers me that my friends think that I am a hypocrite. I tell them that I am a vegetarian because I object to the cruelty of animals. They always question me because I still eat cage free eggs and sometimes dairy or I cheat with fish. I much rather be a hypocrite than pretend to be ignorant.

  • This sums up what I feel about meat eating. I rather be a hypocrite than a completely ignorant.

  • Where is the conflict? Do you want to participate in, and contribute to, the torture of animals, or not? How selfish are we, really?
