A quick-and-dirty experiment after watching the table-top exercises with the Retina Implant AG device at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSdmWbItsvU (Channel 4 News).

Here using The vOICe Learning Edition software with camera glasses, but no foveal view setting, and no wide-angle lens. Everything else at default settings, and the video was not edited. Unlike an electronic retinal implant, this technology is not limited to late blind people with RP (retinitis pigmentosa), and early blind people can (and do!) use this technology too. No surgery needed here, and you can easily upgrade to better hardware later on. However, learning to interpret the image sounds is not easy and takes extensive training.
