An incredible display of pick pocketing at the LexisNexis booth at the 2009 IACP Conference. Apollo the Gentleman picked several pockets to show how easily theft can occur.

Funny because even though he is doing things behind the guys back, what he's saying while he's doing those things actually make sense. Like when he told the guy to flip his watch around so he can steal it, he also said it'll take about 3 minutes. It was a nice distraction but it actually took 3 minutes!!!

The trick is to make sure it still feels firmly in place when you flip the strap open with your finger by holding it still; and' then to direct their attention away from that side of their body and pull your hand back with the watch and into your pocket :P

The watch is the easy one. You unlatch it but hold it firmly in place (holding their hand from a handshake or holding their wrist with one hand while holding their hand with the other, or whatever makes it feel like it's still tight, but looks like you're not up to anything), direct their attention to the other side of their body with the other hand, at that very moment, you "take your hand off their arm" (really you're just taking the watch, which was already undone).
