What do you mean 'about time'??? They've been use on hang gliders since about 1978.

Slight graze on his hand and shaken up. Managed to get down after about 20mins due to there being so much lift around.

why did he deploy? his wing looked ok... was it accidental?

It was post mid air with a paraglider. The glider was spinning and having only 400ft or so above take off meant it was a snap decision as I didn't expect it to recover.
The wing was fine and the chute is packed away for another day....
