The program provides an income to returning Internally Displaced Peoples under the Government of Sri Lankas resettlement program. A minimum of 50 days of employment is guaranteed for one person per household - 10 days to clean/repair the household's own private property; 40 days on approved projects under the program. It has now reached about 17,000 households. The Cash-for-Work program is a component of the Emergency Northern Recovery Project—ENReP— a project co-financed by the Government of Australia.

  • Cash for work? Isn´t it called salary?

  • The government does the damage and expects these people to fix it up. The government has enough aid to bring machinery into theses villages and construct schools, building and houses. Lay proper roads, and create proper drainage systems. Going in this route Sri Lanka is not going improve the lives of these innocent people. With money available the government is focusing on building Buddhist temples, army bases and other non urgent things all over the northeast and western provinces.
