Morals should be the study of preferable behaviour as general rules in all situations instead of judgement when those aren't followed. If you must escape starvation by stealing food and if you think the one stealing food still should pay back when he/she ever has the money, you still consider stealing when starving to death not a preferred behaviour. If we loose the sin and blame in the game of morals, it becomes more clear and consistent, with no consideration to situations.
