To add to that also make sure that your hand is all the way over the hand grip on the handle. Not just on the edge. If you had it on the edge and the engine suddenly started you could be left with a very unpredictable and dangerous situation of a spinning starting handle

May I suggest that you put your thumb with your fingers incase of kick back otherwise you could break your thumb!!
