On June 7, 2006 at approximately 7:03 AM local, a Trade Winds cargo Boeing B747-200, N922FT, overran the end of RW 18 after aborting the takeoff due to an engine failure at Medellin - Jose Maria Cordova Airport (SKRG), Rio Negro, Colombia. There were no injuries to the 6 crewmembers onboard. The airplane was substantially damaged.


The METAR was wind calm visibility 7000 VCSH BKN008 SCT 080 16/14 A3037.


The investigation is being conducted by the Aeronautica Civil, Republica de Columbia. The US NTSB is assisting the Columbian investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.

    That's no the only reason videos like this are watched. We learn a lot from videos like this. I was a flight attendant and we had to watch videos like this in training to see what could have been done if anything different than what happened. Yes curiosity is a part of it but it also teaches us a lot.

    The largest fuel capacity 747 has over 240,000 literes of fuel on it (in the wings).

    And when you have four 4~6 ton engines with high temperatures (1000c) and inertial force explode as they hit the ground its kind of hard for it to not burst into flames is it.

    The fire from engines on this plane is the wet ground being pulled through it. The wing tanks were not damaged.

    I'm a pilot. You should be more scared with the smaller aircrafts. They heavy jets are far more stable and powerful.
