This lecture by Dr. Nadia Rosenthal discusses the importance of adult stem cells in the tissue maintenance, development and regeneration. Part 3 of 6.
HHMI description:
Mature organisms have stem cells of various sorts, called adult stem cells. Adult stem cells supply cells that compensate for the loss of cells from normal cell death and turnover, such as the ever-dying cells of our skin, our blood, and the lining of our gut. They are also an essential source of cells for healing and regeneration in response to injury. Some animals, such as sea stars, newts, and flatworms, are capable of dramatic feats of regeneration, producing replacement limbs, eyes, or most of a body. It is an evolutionary puzzle why mammals have more limited powers of regeneration.
Researchers are interested in pinpointing where adult stem cells reside and in understanding how flexible adult stem cells are in their ability to produce divergent cells such as muscle and red blood cells. Understanding the sources and the rules for the differentiation of adult stem cells is essential for tapping their therapeutic potential. Since consenting adults can provide adult stem cells, some people think that adult stem cells may be a less controversial area of research than embryonic stem cells.
hoo man I cant believe that she cant throw those white "gifts".

After 6 months of offering stem cell therapy in combination with the venous angioplasty liberation procedure, patients of CCSVI Clinic have reported excellent health outcomes. Ms. Kasma Gianopoulos of Athens Greece, who was diagnosed with the Relapsing/Remitting form of MS in 1997 called the combination of treatments a “cure”. A universal benefit reported by every patient has been the recovery of bladder control. Most MS patients have various bladder control symptoms that include urinary urgency, incontinence, nocturia, or urinary hesitancy as a result of the disruption of electrical impulses from the brain to the nerves and muscles that are involved in emptying the bladder (pudenal nerve, urethral sphincter, detrusor muscle). I purchased Stem Enhance from Amazon and it is working pretty well. My eye sight seems to have gotten better and my skin feels smoother. =)
But it is true that more of this research should continue!!

The beauty of newly released bone marrow stem cells is that they have the capacity to become any cell to which tissue they home to. The Adult Stem Cell System is in place at birth, and the information has been researched and developed by many scientists, but it took Christian Drapeau to bring it all together. His book, Cracking the Stem Cell Code sheds light on the profound system in place!

I think this lady is great and she speaks really well. What is surprising is that, while doing a project on stem cells, we decided to use Prometheus as a mythological reference and here I can see she has done the same!!I conceived of the idea and am proud.I see there are people here saying things like adult stem cells can produce everything, but they can produce only yhe tissues they have been derived from.Induced pluripotent stem cells can produce everything, but needs further research.

There is already a product that a person can take orally and it causes stem cells to release from their bone marrow and they travel all over the body seeking areas to repair. People on dialysis had kidneys to start working again after taking it and eye's have been repaired. Adult stemcells repair EVERYTHING!
