  • The Irish Republican Army of old are nothing to do with todays IRA. They eventually became the Irish Freestate Army with radicals keeping the old name.

  • @allkelly The Free State army were not Republicans, they left the Irish Republican Army which continues to exist to this day. The free staters swore and oath of allegiance to the British crown. Traitors

  • There was hope & there was excitement for awhile and then the Free State Army in Athlone turned on former comrades and friends who had fought in the War of Independence with them, and they started arresting and shooting their own people like my grandfather and his friends and more & more people were shot for no good reason and the bitterness was palpable - how in hell did the country ever recover from it all?

  • collins knew this was the best deal he could get from the british government if he said no the british army would still rule all of ireland today ,the north was never on the table to negotiate still the splinter group did,nt like it spat it,s dummy out,=civil war beaten by the free state.still here today fighting a lost cause.......

  • @WARISHELL09 it was a peaceful protest by families of RIR and british army victims. Thats all. You need to see the light and accept the 32 County Republic.
