@stewartx5 Probably because all those spurs make the wattmeter go farther. People take it a lot farther than this, too. They don't seem to care that other operators either can't understand them, or just ignore them.

Why would anyone adjust the modulation to the point of distorting the voice? In a device meant to facilitate communications, this practice seems entirely counterproductive to me.
Instead of this, I take great pride in how clear my output is. To help accomplish this, I use a mono mic intended for stage or auditorium applications (wider frequency response) rather than a CB mic. I've received a great many compliments while doing so.
