Haha, I'm a westerner myself, friend. I learned of the beauty of the carnatic tradition only a few years ago, and since I was raised in a household full of western classical music and jazz, it was only a short while before I began to appreciate the essence of the music. Great skill can be recognized by intelligent people of any culture.

@knpradeep77 It is possible for mebers of any culture to love any other culture, but not for every single member. You not even can force yourself to open your mind and heart. I am convinced that you would become richer in soul if you would find a way in to the music of bach or bill evans just for instance.

carnatic music is the mother of all music. It is derived from the immortal vedas - the samaveda. There is a branch of samaveda called gandharva veda that deals with this. The vedic hymns of samaveda in recitation gave birth to carnatic music. It is only from its origninal beginings that the offshoot of hindustani music has evolved. The western classical music are a an evolution only in the last 1000 yrs or so, when the innate talent for notes had gone to Europe from India via Middle East

Superb, by a master.Music is Universal.I love Western Classical music too.Always compare apples to apples and not to oranges.Western hip hop is not to be compared with Carnatic,..and so on.

No, the Sa in Carnatic/Hindustani is not fixed at any frequency. it can be anything.

Basically all music is based on the 7 notes of music and the Sa in Carnatic/Hindustani and A in Western classical is 440 Hz frequency. I personally enjoy Western/Carnatic/Hindustani/Af­ro-Carrib but treat them differently for the purposes of proper appreciation. I am a trained Carnatic Vocalist. It is so sad to see riveting viewpoints when it comes to music. Reaching out and attempting to appreciate the music of another culture is truly what music is about. James Bowman is phenomenal!
