ZEPHYRHILLS -- One local city may have gotten too much of a good thing when rain moved through the area overnight.
Heavy rains left behind some flooding in downtown Zephyrhills early Wednesday morning. The area near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 7th Street was left completely underwater, and there was flooding reported outside of city hall.
The downtown fire station was also affected, with nearly four inches of water seeping inside the building. Officials said they were forced to turn off the electric to the building while they wait for the waters to recede.
Meteorologist Dave Osterberg said the between 4 and 5 inches of rain fell in a very short period of time, and it accumulated quickly. Like much of the Bay Area, Zephyrhills has been dry recently, which made the problem worse.
One car reportedly got stuck in the flood waters, and officials are recommending that drivers avoid the area until the waters recede.
