At one point, the village engaged in a successful button making industry, creating buttons from shipments of mother-of-pearl from Europe.
Fishing enthusiasts can head to nearby Broadkill Beach or Cape Henlopen State Park for a day or an afternoon of some of the area's finest fishing spots. Surrounding the village are a number of flatland roads offering beautiful scenery for cyclists.
